Shadow of the Tomb Raider sound & music featurette

Shadow of the Tomb Raider composer Brian D'Oliveira of La Hacienda Creative and Audio / Music director Rob Bridgett of Eidos Montreal elaborate on the sound and music of the game in the video feature above. The announcement of D'Oliveira's involvement in the upcoming franchise pillar installment alongside supporting compositions by Martin Stig Andersen precedes.

Bridgett and D’Oliveira crafted the sound and music of Shadow of the Tomb Raider over three years: "From dense jungles and bustling city hubs to terrifying tombs and underwater cenotes – the game’s rich environments come to life with an immersive and authentic audio experience". D'Oliveira even visited Mexico to collect trunk-loads of authentic instruments for his La Hacienda studio in Montreal.

D'Oliveira takes the reigns from Rise of the Tomb Raider's Bobby Tahouri and continues to incorporate the rebooted thematic motif created for Lara Croft by Jason Graves in 2013. The Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Original Game Soundtrack is to be released as enclosed in special retail editions of the game, due to hit video game retailers worldwide on September 14th, 2018.

Peter Connelly announces Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel

In the same vein as Nathan McCree's The Tomb Raider Suite, the Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel project aims to re-record legacy franchise composer Peter Connelly's soundtracks to Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation (1999), Tomb Raider: Chronicles (2000) & Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness (2003). The project has been in development for over two years and is being slated for funding via Kickstarter, following The Tomb Raider Suite's success in reaching 121% of its goal.

"The album will not be a direct copy of the original Tomb Raider games’ scores, although it will remain faithful to those classic soundtracks. The music will be transformed and rearranged using techniques and personnel that were simply not available or within reach 15–20 years ago. Connelly intends to bring the musical compositions and recordings up to date and provide the listener, not only a sense of nostalgia, but with a whole new experience of this familiar and much-loved Tomb Raider music." - Press release

It should be noted that "The original versions of Connelly’s pieces will also be made available, properly remastered and beautifully presented, to tie-in with the new orchestral album so that fans can enjoy the original scores in the best possible quality" - something The Tomb Raider Suite project is yet to offer for the still unreleased soundtracks to Tomb Raider I, II & III (1996-1998) in over 20 years of the franchise.

Despite the soundtrack to Angel of Darkness having been recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the London Symphony Orchestra in 2002, Connelly promises that "all of the music, TR6 included, will be re-arranged in the same way that TR4 and TR5 will be re-mastered so they're all part of the same "family". The Last Revelation & Chronicles will benefit immensely as their soundtracks were limited by the software-instrumentation technology of the times. Personnel includes masters in their field - Dr Richard Niles, Isobel Griffiths & Tomb Raider alumnus Martin Iveson.

The Kickstarter campaign launches on October 1st, and the studio album is set to be recorded and produced at the state-of-the-art Air Lyndhurst Studios in London. Formats, distribution & pledge tiers are yet to be announced, but for upcoming information please visit the Tomb Raider: The Dark Angel website.

Further delays to The Tomb Raider Suite album production

Following delays to a May 1st release date, last we heard The Tomb Raider Suite album was slated to arrive this month. However, composer Nathan McCree announces further delays to the project much to the dismay of Kickstarter benefactors, citing the commencement of manufacturing today. The digital download was previously indicated to be (possibly) released prior to August, however, this has also been delayed due to a lack of distribution method:

"I am very happy to tell you that we have finally gone into our manufacturing phase of the project... The artwork for the front and back covers of the Jewel Case CD, Deluxe Tin CD and Vinyl, along with the 16-page booklet, is now finalised and ready for printing... After a considerable amount of research and fact finding we now believe we have the right solution to be able to distribute the Digital Download to you all in a couple of weeks’ time. We will most likely do this via our website... To honour the support you have shown us in backing this project, we are planning on giving the Digital Download to our backers first, a couple of days before our main retail digital release." - Nathan McCree

The Tomb Raider Suite project consists of the promised album of re-recordings of further embellished material from Tomb Raider (1996), Tomb Raider II (1997) & Tomb Raider III (1998), a feature documentary Tomb Raider: Remastered as well as the Tomb Raider - Live in Concert show scheduled for its second performance ever at the London Royal Festival Hall, Monday 17th September, 2018.
